I stay very loyal to the doctors I have seen, however, this year, post retirement, I switched from lifelong PPO insurance to an HMO. I simply decided if my doctor wasn't in the network, I'd be willing to pay out of pocket and not use the HMO coverage. After 20 years, my doctor in Beverly Hills retired; I saw his associate once and was happy. But under the HMO, my out of pocket expense was upward of $1,000, which meant I hit my tipping point. I found Dr. Clark at AVOC and was very happy! We reviewed my history of early onset cataracts, resulting corrective surgery, Lasik surgery, mono-vision (20/20 in R eye, 20/200 in L) and an autoimmune disease affecting my eyes which required me to take hydroxychloroquine for 5 years (which can potentially harm your retinas; I was fortunate in that regard). So thus, I have quite a history. My exam was thorough, with some tests I'd not experienced. Long story short, I'm not driving to Beverly Hills any longer and saved myself $1,000.

I am the type of person, who once I find a doctor I really like, I stay loyal with them. This year I switched insurance carriers and post retirement, I went from lifelong being on a PPO plan to experimenting with an HMO plan. If my doctor didn't accept HMO, I'd choose to pay out of pocket. But, my doctor's office of 20+ years, didn't accept the HMO and my out of pocket would be $1,000. My original doctor in the practice retired to do research, I'd seen the remaining doctor only once, so I hit my tipping point and looked locally for a doctor. I am the type of person, who when I find a doctor I really like, I stay loyal to them. This year I switched insurance carriers and was content to pay out of pocket for appointments, however, a doctor I stayed with in Beverly Hills for 20 years, due to the tests on my (what I think, are quirky eyes) would be upwards of $1,000. They didn't take my HMO insurance, so I buckled and decided to look local. AVOC always gives first rate and informative service. The only reason they don't get five stars is the continuous mask policy, which no longer makes sense.
